The Move is Officially ON!!!

OK, so left work around 1:20.....got home, went with Jess to pick up the U-Haul...got that, immediately went to the house for the walk-through check-up. They actually put in the 90° nib on the dryer gas line, so that was nice. Most everything was cleaned up nice and the house looks good...except for the hole in the 2nd floor ceiling of course.

But, I'm keeping a positive attitude...I have to, or else the move will be miserable and nearly impossible!

So, as said...the move is officially on!

The Truck

The STUFFED to the Gills Garage

First Two Boxes
So, packed up, went out and bought some beers and watched some TV. Headed to bed right now. Tomorrow morning we're gonna wake up, bring Summer to daycare, pack some plants into the car, etc...and then go sign the papers and pick up the keys to our house...not that we'll need them, since there will be people there working on the HVAC unit... Going to rip apart the PC and hopefully get it all set up and running again tomorrow, so may be able to make another short post.

Good Night!

Pics - Quick Discussion

OK, at work, so can't write much, need to get to work...but need to post these...

First cuts into the ceiling.

Beginnings of the Hole
Protecting the floor to help pick up the insulation.

Catch That Insulation
See, caught most of it...

Working working...
People checking out the damage.

Some of the Guys Cleaning it all Up
Is this the drain? Is the plug still on?

Not Installed Properly
Put in 3 or 4 fans and a huge humidifier.

Dry Baby, Dry!
Gotta check the carpet, too!

Replace the Wet Pad
This is the pan which didn't have the drain...hate to say it...but, IDIOTS!!! The Installers and the non-inspecting JLH crew...

Yeah, That's NO GOOD
So, that's the beginning of the entire process.

We'll keep taking pics, since we'll be there/moving in, and seeing what is going on. But, we do want to say thanks to Mike and Mark, they are really trying their best to make this right and do it fast... Thanks guys! Keep up the good work! They've been calling, letting us know what's up and not giving us BS answers, they're just working hard to do their best to make us less unhappy. They'd like to make us happy, but that isn't possible... We'll be OK...it is looking like they may be entirely done, with cleaning and everything by Tuesday...at least that's my idea...Mike says Monday, but I give a day to bring in cleaners, etc. We'll see. We'll keep you all posted.

To Good to be True?

Yep....we're still closing, and everything had been going fairly well. We got the financing all squared away. We stuck with our mortgage broker instead of using John Laing's people for cost and mostly for customer service! Our broker adjusted fees and met the JLH pricing, actually beat it all around and Jen rocked! Can't wait to close on Thursday and be rid of these people...

BUT, as I said, we were (note the past tense) excited and looking forward to Thursday...now Thursday and all through the next week is just going to be more stressful and basically a living H-LL! So, yeah, everything is just too good to be true.

I'll post pictures tomorrow, as I only got some from the superintendent on a 3.5" floppy, and funny enough, our PC doesn't have a floppy drive (so old school).

So, what the heck am I talking about? Well a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll just try to give you the gist of it...

Inspections? Does John Laing do them? We found missing fireplaces, door-frames, and heard they got the wrong basement stairway. They put in wrong light-fixtures that they admitted they wouldn't have seen until they installed the lamp and it wouldn't go there because they joists were ill-prepared...so many things that WE found, in addition to things they found. But, how am I supposed to climb into the attic and check the HVAC unit? What, the attic? The HVAC? Yeah, well we have a secondary unit in the attic and it has condensation coils which sweat, so they need to add a drain line to a drip pan and have any condensate drain to the main plumbing and there should also be a secondary line...were they installed? Nope! Was the furnace even prepared to have the drain work, even if there was a drain? Nope!

So, today, the workers go in to do some more of the last week touch up labor and what do they notice? A bubble in the ceiling? Yep, the coils were dripping, it pooled up in the attic and then ate through the ceiling and started dripping on the carpet. I have some pics from the Super with some progress on the work, but right now, the carpet is pulled up from the stairs, new padding will be put in at that spot. Luckily it was found early enough that the OSB in the flooring wasn't wet and they can just replace the padding, dry it out and put in mold resistant spray or whatever.

OK, so we will be moving into the main level and the garage...a lot more inefficient and annoying, they said the best case is painting will be done Monday...so, that means Monday, maybe a bit this weekend we can get some stuff upstairs, but my bet is more like Tuesday or Wednesday...and my dad shows up Wednesday, so I guess we'll put him to work to help move the stuff upstairs and set things up...

Anyway, I had a few more paragraphs, but as the day has been going I hit the spell-check button and lost 3 or 4 paragraphs...great, huh? Along with Summer being sent home sick from daycare (she was fine, but they wanted an official doctor's note) calling about deliveries and getting attitude and problems from them, then the call comes in about the ceiling being destroyed and the problems...so, yuck, terrible, bad day!

So, wish us luck and patience, and I'll post some pictures the super took during the process earlier today...
