Photo Dump June 26th

OK, I took the EASY way out yesterday, but I've still been requested to post some pics. I really don't have many due to being locked out. But I do have a few I can post and comment on...and I'll steal a couple from the JLH site, just because.

First a quick shot of the basement. Unfinished, but they do tack up some insulation to help keep the place warm/cool.

Basement Insulation
Next up is the upstairs. First is the stairway and hallways. Notice the doorknobs are installed and the railing has begun to be installed.

Upstairs is Making Progress
The loft is fully enclosed now (well, not fully enclosed, we'll need to get some sort of gate, but the railings and the wrought iron posts are all installed.

Loft Area
Since upstairs, check out the master fireplaces progress. First some tiling has begun...

Tile Installed
Then the tile needed to be grouted and the electric is more installed, notice the remote panel for the security system. We'll probably leave as a standard alarm and not activate a service for a while. A full house alarm works pretty well to get attention on its own. Jess basically wants in case I start traveling more and she's home alone with the kids.

Fireplace is Nearly Ready
And the masterbath is completely tiled, as well. They just need to complete the counter-tops. We went semi-expensive in here. There is some standard white tile, which sort of accents off the tub/shower basin, but it's mostly the better tile and there is some glass accent pieces which don't stand out in the photos.

Master Bath
OK, let's go downstairs. First, another shot of the hardwood, which was shown a few days ago in the front hallway. Here it is in the great-room and the kitchen. This shot is prior to the cabinets being installed.

Lots of Hardwood Downstairs
And a week or so later, the cabinets showed up (about a week after originally scheduled). Here they are installed in the kitchen. As you can see they come pre-stained. The floors are stained after everything else...but likely before the carpet is installed in a couple of weeks. Also of note is the under cabinet lighting on the left side, they have a couple installed and you can see the outlets/light switches, doorbell, etc.

Kitchen Looking Nice
This weekend we saw that the under cabinet lighting was being installed and saw the media built in ouselves for the first time. Yeah, we figured a built in was THE way to go for this room. Much better than trying to find some sort of shelving to fit. I even went as far as having the wiring done custom all above in the upper cabinets, so Summer can't hit the components and to limit the wiring behind the TV. We got the built into the ceiling pre-wired 5.1 surround sound so we don't need to put speakers out on shelves or stands, again a baby safety and clean install look. Additionally I made sure to have extra cabling installed for internet and satellite/cable TV as well as a dedicated outlet on it's own fuse to help keep the power to the components as clean as possible. I've always hated in apartments/the condo when the fridge would kick in, lights turning on/off, etc...the TV would flicker and basically there would be a surge. This should help alleviate all of that.

Beautiful Built-Ins
Here's a fairly ugly shot of the lighting in the dining room. But it shows off the cool chandelier we get. It's part of the Catrina lighting package. Everything is basic black like this.

Dining Room Lighting
The last thing to show from inside the house is the last I saw of the mud-room bench. I mentioned this in an earlier post, seeing the bench like this made me rather upset. I wanted it open, as built in the model home. Our new home counselor pushed and it is supposedly going to be cut out under the bench now...although that means some sheetrock and tile work/touch ups will need to take place. But I'll get MY BENCH the way I expected it (I say "MY" and "I" because Jessica said she didn't care as much. Because she's given up about worrying about the house or just doesn't care about the bench...but I think she'll really appreciate it when it is done). One thing is being done right...even if it's taken me so many complaints and problems to get them to do something customer oriented/nice for us.

Built Wrong
I'll definitely update with a picture of this built right, IF THEY FIX IT, and when we next get in the house.

OK, lastly, and just because, here is a shot of ONE of our TWO air conditioners. Yeah, being a two story home (3 counting the basement) we have two air conditioners and two furnaces. One each for the upstairs and one for the downstairs/basement. Absolutely terrifying! Meaning the cost of running this house! We've budgeted about 3X what we've paid in the condo/apartments...I hope that's enough...it may not be.

One of Two Air Conditioners
OK, that's it, and catches us up to today. The next few days should see the counter-tops arriving and being installed. I'll try getting off work early Thursday and getting in there with a decent camera to get some pics of that.

Lastly, we're working on financing right about now. Problems there, too. Oops. Silly us not getting Jess a "REAL JOB" so we're working on getting financing based solely on my income or finding a way to use Jessica's new contract labor income. Hmmm... We'll get financing, that doesn't seem to be the problem, it's just the rates and packages that we'd most want are a bit difficult to get easily.

OK, so, should I start a countdown of sorts, since we have a move-in date? August 3rd is 38 days away...

Copping out...

Busy busy busy weekend....so I'll just post this link for John Laing's webpage that they provide and post pictures for all of the new homeowners. I guess in case the owners are not around to go see the place themselves. And since we can't get in so easily, most of the pictures I have are from through the windows and/or with my cell phone camera (as was that last picture of the flooring through the window into the living room).

OK, so check that link and I'll see about getting more pics up some other time.

Good night!

We Have a Date

OK, OK, I know I OWE SO MANY PICTURES!!!

But as mentioned before, I've been super busy and very frustrated with the process...so it's hard to work on this blog. I'll do a photo dump this weekend, but I just had to mention two things.

First, the post title hints at it...we have a date for closing!!! It's a 90% surety now. (since they have about 2 weeks of work to do and the closing is 6 weeks away...I think they can meet the date.) Anyway, the closing meeting is set for August 3rd at 9AM...so about an hour after that we'll be walking out of the meeting with keys to our new home! YAY!!!

Finally!

The main things they have left are the countertops, carpeting and staining the hardwood floors. Everything else basically seems ready. I'm sure there are a lot of little touches here and there, and they schedule people one at a time and spread them out, so everyone has their time to do their job. I can respect that, but it sure hurts waiting... You'll see pics this weekend and you'll see how far along they really are!

Secondly, one positive comment. (I promised our new home counselor Angie I would mention this.) You recall the mud-room bench I was so upset about? Well, she "fought" for us and they've decided to rebuild/adjust the bench to look like the model with the cut-out underneath for shoes and such. (So, that's a few days work, I'm sure...based on needing drywallers, painters and a tiler to fix it up.) So, yay to that!

It truly feels like the least they can do with all the problems we've had. Such as I'll always be concerned about the master bedroom closet wall, and the stone on the front of the house, the drain/wet-bar rough in down in the basement...but everything else they've fixed up and will be all good.

OK, so here's one quick "teaser" photo:

Hardwood Being Installed
OK, so, look forward to some pics soon!
